Arc-cast Erbium metal ingots: Erbium is element 68 on the periodic table of the elements. It is a Lanthanide or Rare Earth metal. The pictured high purity Erbium metal was prepared on campus at the Ames Laboratory. ISU, Ames Laboratory, and scientists throughout the world source their lanthanides from ISU/Ames Laboratory. The metals are used to grow single crystals and prepare polycrystalline alloys and compounds where high purity is necessary to study the intrinsic properties of the crystal or material.
