Element 26. This picture displays arc cast "button" ingots of pure iron. Each button weighs around 50g. It is a precursor form for remelting/alloying and conversion into ~40 µm diameter spherical powder via High Pressure Gas Atomization. The casting and powder preparation are being conducted at the Ames Laboratory. Ames Laboratory and ISU have a Materials Science & Engineering programs. Our research and patented IP for powder metallurgy process and alloys have been successfully deployed industrially.
