Calcium metal (atomic # 20) is used in the preparation of high purity rare earth metals at Ames Laboratory, USDOE. The picture shows purified calcium processed in the Metals Development Building. Purification of Calcium was developed and refined by F.H.Spedding, O.N.Carlson, D.T. Peterson, and other ISU researchers.
