Heat Shield
A tantalum heat shield use in the production of rare earth metals (REM) at the Ames Laboratory's Materials Preparation Center. The rainbow is from various levels of oxidation of deposited REM on the tantalum. Ames Laboratory has long tradition of producing the worlds purist REM.
