Shark in the Sea. This abstract seascape is really deposits on the interior of a quartz containment tube used in a rare earth recycling project. The research project is being conducted by the Critical Materials Institute utilizing casting systems at the Ames Laboratory's Materials Preparation Center. An induction furnace is used to melt the waste metals and selectively distill out the high value components.
